Before you say yes or pay, stop
- Real banks, police, Medicare, Social Security, and the IRS do not demand money on the phone.
- Never pay with gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or cash handed to someone at the door.
- Hang up. Call back on a number you already know, not one the caller gives you.
- If a family member calls in trouble, ask for our safe word. Then call them back on their own number.
- Do not press buttons, tap links in texts, or answer yes or no questions from strangers.
- It is fine to be rude to a stranger. It is fine to hang up.
- Before any payment, call someone below.
